Establishing AI-native design practices

Executive summary

1

I led my team to develop and scale Amazon's inaugural UX AI program in 6 weeks, generating a 33% reduction in overall UX development lifecycles. To accomplish this, I orchestrated a rapid, high-pressure initiative to deploy predictive UX modeling into Amazon's annual operating plan (OP1), pioneering early generative workflows despite zero market or internal precedents.

The challenge

2

The Vice President mandated the delivery of full, production-grade UX mocks to meet changing OP1 parameters. No commercial or internal software existed to support this workflow, and standard corporate engineering support was unavailable due to peak planning seasons.

It would be presented to our SVP and CEO in 6 weeks.

Strategic action and leadership

3

Agile Pivoting:

Recognized early that traditional research sourcing yielded minimal leverage; aggressively shifted team resources 3 weeks into the timeline toward rapid prototyping.

Resource development:

Creatively bartered for and embedded an agile engineering asset directly into the design pod to deep-dive into LLM fine-tuning alongside the core team.

Defining Paths to Launch:

Championed the operational philosophy that highly experimental, high-risk stretch projects must maintain visible, programmatic pathways to launch rather than existing as mere research exercises.

Business impact

4

My team successfully delivered 2 foundational high-fidelity mocks, but failed to deliver the other 4 with our new AI, delivering them via standard design development instead. The model required an 18-step process to install and took an average of 6 hours of prompting to successfully deliver a customer-ready, technically viable plug-and-play design complete with code. My team continued to leverage it for phase 1 development/brainstorming (turning a 6-hour task into a 1-hour task). I handed off its further development and scaling to a large team with focus on internal projects while mine returned to B2C monetization.

The model established an internal blueprint for AI transformation across UX organizations, proving the business case for broader organizational AI workflow integration to executive leadership.
